Empowering Innovation: Large Language Models Transcending European Data Frontiers
This session offers a thorough analysis of the incorporation and impact of Large Language Models (LLMs) in the European data and innovation landscape. It examines current policies and activities that are pivotal in defining Europe’s position in Generative AI, addressing both the opportunities and challenges present in this evolving field. The focus will be on identifying essential elements – data, computing resources, skills, and scientific advancements – for Europe’s industrial and scientific competitiveness, as well as technological sovereignty in the field of LLMs and Generative AI. A critical component of the discussion is the emphasis on ensuring equal support for all European languages by LLMs. The development of a European Language Data Space and Language Data Infrastructure is examined, highlighting its significance in innovation and promoting linguistic diversity. Participants will gain insights into recent projects transforming the generation, sharing, and application of language data and the readiness of HPC centres for large-scale LLM development and natural language processing across Europe. The session will also present case studies from companies and SMEs integrating Generative AI and LLMs into their services and operational frameworks.
