Ruben Verborgh
Professor of Semantic Web technology at Ghent University

Ruben Verborgh is a professor of Semantic Web technology at Ghent University – imec and a research affiliate at the Decentralized Information Group at MIT. He aims to build a more intelligent generation of clients for a decentralized Web at the intersection of Linked Data and hypermedia-driven Web APIs. At European Big Data Value Forum he will present topic titled Bigger than Big Data: decentralized personal data on the Web. Against a background of GDPR and massive data leaks, empowering people to store and control their own data becomes crucial. He will present the Solid ecosystem and vision, a project led by Web inventor Tim Berners-Lee. Solid aims to reshape the Web, software development, and business models. These paradigm shifts will be framed in a media context, with threats and opportunities for the sector.
