Arnold Smeulders is professor of artificial intelligence at the University of Amsterdam and envoy for ELLIS to the new PPP on AI, Data and Robotics. He has 65 PhD-students graduating and was director of COMMIT, the nation-wide public-private program for ICT-research in the Netherlands. He is founder of QUVA, the Qualcomm-University lab, of Delta, the BoschGmbH-University lab, of Euvision Technologies BV, acquired by Qualcomm, and of the current startup Kepler Vision BV. He holds the Korteweg medaillion, a ACM MM achievement award, and membership of the Academia Europeana.
