The TransContinuum Initiative and its Impact on Data-Driven Transformation
The objective of the session, co-organised by the DataCloud project and the TransContinuum Initiative (TCI) is to create a forum for academia and industry to discuss challenges and opportunities in the emerging field of Big Data processing under the Computing Continuum paradigm.
The TransContinuum concept is the synergy of a set of different digital technologies and methods, which offer new solutions for the always more complex field of operation of heterogeneous and big data workflow systems. This workshop will highlight and discuss two of the main trends in the ongoing data-driven transformation of organisations: The Cloud/Edge/Fog Computing Continuum and its significance for the future processing of big data.
The Computing Continuum – federating Cloud services with emerging Edge and Fog computing paradigms – enables new opportunities for supporting the processing of Big Data. However, challenges remain in the efficient management and usage of heterogeneous and untrusted resources across the Continuum.
During the workshop we will present current approaches and cases for Big Data on the TransContinuum from these verticals, followed by a panel discussion on the long-term Research and Innovation challenges that need to be solved in order to realise the potential of Big Data on the computing continuum. Based on the contributions and discussions at the session, a position paper will be produced.
