Concept:

The session showcases examples of Smart Government initiatives across Europe that integrate AI, Digital Twins and Big Data solutions. A focus lies on co-creating services with the use of the 3 aforementioned technologies.

Objectives:

  • Identifying a possible input for a shared policy brief with recommendations on the gaps discovered in the session
  • Identifying and checking the impact, trust and attitudes of civil servants and citizens concerning disruptive technologies
  • Identifying how easy would be to replicate the DUET digital twin, dedicated to urban policy making, to other cities and regions in Europe

Further description:

The term ” Smart Society ” encompasses several areas, including the smart city, smart government, smart mobility and the Circular Economy. All these perspectives are fundamental to the development of societies that are sustainable and intelligently connected. Smart Government is a pillar of this ” Smart Society “, providing the needed infrastructure and technology which allows a good communication and understanding between citizens and tools provided by Governments. Among benefits of Smart Governance are:

  • Enhanced participation of citizens
  • Easing the access to information
  • Better democracy
  • Improving the work of policy decision makers

Decision-making will become more democratic and effective, both in the short and long term, through the development and use of Digital Twins for policy impact exploration and experimentation in entire cities and regions

Artificial intelligence (AI), Digital Twin and Big Data can play an important role in smart government processes. During the event, expert speakers from different backgrounds will present examples and discuss aspects of smart government projects.

This session is jointly organised by:

DUET project EU https://www.digitalurbantwins.com/  DUET’s use of Digital Twins truly changes the policy game, disrupting the field of Smart Cities and transitioning to a new age of Responsive Cities. With Responsive Cities, solutions are not designed around citizens, they are designed with the citizen placed firmly at the center of the action. DUET aims to create digital twins for more open and collaborative urban decisions. Therefore  by creating digital replicas of a city, people, no matter their background, can use the Digital Twins 3D and 2D interfaces for easy policy impact exploration and experimentation across entire cities and regions.

URBANITE project EU https://urbanite-project.eu/ Create an in-depth knowledge on the implications of the use of the disruptive technologies (e.g. AI), in the public sector and other stakeholders of the mobility and urban transformation value chain. Urbanite will provide, by means of a co-creation strategy, a long-term sustainable ecosystem model that articulates the expectations and attitudes in the use of disruptive ICT for planning in the mobility domain. This model will be supported with the provision of a data management platform and algorithms for data – driven decision – making validated by piloting four use-cases.

PolicyCloud project EU   https://policycloud.eu/ The Policy Cloud project aims to harness the potential of digitisation, big data and cloud technologies to improve the modelling, creation and implementation of policy. In three years (2020-2023) the project will address challenges faced by many businesses and public administrations of improving how they make policy decisions by accessing and using data.

Four use cases are being developed in the following fields:

  • Radicalisation
  • Food value chain
  • Urban environment
  • Policies for citizens
