Leveraging Technologies for Data Management to Implement Data Spaces

The widespread use of digital technologies in all aspects of human life has rapidly increased data generation. More effective and efficient management processes are required to harness this data’s potential, leveraging efficient data processing, analysis, and automation, which are also crucial for EU Data Spaces adoption/utilisation. By fostering interoperability, standardization, and seamless data sharing across various sectors and domains, the development of domain-specific Data Spaces is facilitated. This, in turn, enhances collaboration, innovation, and decision-making.
Towards this direction, the 2021-Data-01-03 “Technologies for Data Management” initiative boosted projects to develop new secure and energy-efficient data management tools that enhance the usability and discoverability of data across various contexts, addressing data provenance, synthetic data generation, and data quality management.
The objective of the session is to bring together projects in the 2021-Data-01-03 “Technologies for Data Management” call to gain insights and recommendations for further developing and integrating building blocks into vertical Data Spaces. The discussion will delve into highlighting the complementarities or variations between the different projects involved, to let domain/sector specific (i.e. water, energy, green deal, mobility, agrifood, etc.) data space building blocks emerge, and specifically considering:
- Data Interoperability that ensures the ability of different data systems, platforms, and applications to communicate and exchange data in a consistent, secure and meaningful way;
- Data Sovereignty and Trust mechanisms that manage and verify the participants identity within a data space, specify access and usage policies and control;
- Data Value creation enablers that assess, validate, process data and metadata;
- Data Governance issues that establishes the policies, standards, and practices for managing and controlling data assets.
