Human in the Loop: Behaviour, Society and the Age of Convergence
Beyond the algorithm: Understanding the human impact of AI, Big Data and Quantum. Exploring the gap between technological acceleration and human adaptation.
AI has no nervous system. Humans do. Yet we are redesigning organisations as if both operate under the same rules. Artificial intelligence never sleeps. It doesn’t experience stress, fatigue or uncertainty. It has no nervous system. Humans do.
As organisations increasingly embed AI into their core operations, we are redesigning work at unprecedented speed. Yet much of the conversation continues to focus on the capabilities of AI, rather than the capabilities – and limits – of the humans working alongside it.
Human-in-the-loop has become one of the defining principles of responsible AI. But what does that really mean? Is human oversight a genuine design principle, or are we creating systems that gradually erode the very conditions required for good human judgement?
Bringing together experts in behavioural science, experimental psychology, philosophy, organisational leadership, and enterprise technology, this panel explores a question that sits at the heart of Europe’s AI future: How should organisations be designed when humans and intelligent agents work together? What will our society look like with AI in the loop?
Rather than asking how people can adapt to AI, we ask the more fundamental question: How must organisations adapt to people?
The discussion will explore the future of human judgement, organisational accountability, trust, governance and the changing economics of work – challenging leaders to rethink what it truly means to keep humans meaningfully in the loop.
