From AI for Energy to Energy for AI: Closing the loop
The recent yet unprecedented development and deployment of leading-edge ICTs at decreasing costs, including AI/Generative AI, Digital Twins, DLTs blockchain and decentralized data management and IoT-edge-cloud continuum has been reshaping the energy sector to a large extent.
On one hand, Digital Twins, DataSpaces, and bove all Artificial Intelligence/Generative AI hold the potential to optimise renewable energy-based energy systems, improve grid resilience. AI has been driving the energy transition by transforming how energy is generated, stored and consumed.
The European Commission has been answering such challenges through AI upscaling via Energy TEF and especially by financing all over Europe the deployment of AI Factories and Giga Factories specialized to provide the computing capability necessary to upscale the AI deployment at EU-level. However, the increased adoption of AI in particular goes hand in hand with unprecedented energy demand, particularly from the growth of AI, with widespread concerns been raised about the sustainability of Data Centres.
The workshop investigates the evolving two-way relationship between AI and energy, identified emerging trends, and discuss what is needed to harness AI’s benefits while managing its energy footprint.
