Concept and objectives

The regulatory landscape for data and artificial intelligence is evolving fast. This session focuses on the EU’s Digital Omnibus package, the flagship effort to simplify the EU rulebook for data and AI, and looks beyond the legal text to its effects in practice, both actual and potential. The stated goals are ambitious: less administrative burden, lower compliance costs, more room to innovate and a more competitive Europe. But what do they mean on the ground? The session explores the impact on researchers, startups and SMEs, large companies and policymakers. Where and how does simplification create opportunities? What are the threats of simplification? Are risks removed or shifted? And what can organisations of every size and scope do to stay innovative and compliant while the rules are in transition?

Session leads:

  • Freek Bomhof (TNO)
  • Natalie Bertels (KU Leuven)
  • Dumitru Roman (Sintef)
