In this session, we will delve into recommendations for engaging with citizens within data-driven innovation projects in a fair and inclusive manner. Firstly, we will analyze the extent to which participatory practices have been integrated into the EUHubs4Data experiments. We will present strategies employed to actively involve citizens in decision-making processes that guide the utilization of data to co-create services, knowledge, or technology. This will be illustrated with examples and their implications, including an exploration of participatory projects where a grassroots and bottom-up approach takes centre stage, demonstrating how such initiatives play a foundational role in data collection and interpretation, and the subsequent generation of meaningful outcomes. Moreover, we will initiate a discussion among participants, fostering the exchange of insights, experiences, and best practices. Together, we will discuss a set of recommendations to ensure the fair and equitable involvement of citizens in digital innovation hubs, thereby promoting more inclusive access to data technology.
