The digital transformation phenomena started years ago to turn industry in a smart sector. Smart Manufacturing, as one of the most important pillars for European economy, is deeply impacted as well. This transformation is driven by new forms of economic activity and work, globally, where digital ecosystems help to replace rigid and strictly defined value chains with highly dynamic and globally connected value networks including new forms of cooperation. Data-driven business models prioritise the benefit to the customer and solutions, replacing the focus on the product as the prevailing paradigm of industrial value creation. Availability, transparency and access to data are key factors for success in the connected economy and largely determine competitiveness.
In this scenario, Industrie 4.0 describes a fundamental process of innovation and transformation in industrial production for Europe. BDVA is focusing on those challenges, in the manufacturing sector, that still need to be considered and solved. This session will present and discuss European strategies and key fields of actions to foster the digital transformation and strengthen the global competitiveness of Europe’s manufacturing sector.
